There wasn't a dry eye in the Dolby Theatre during Sunday's Academy Awards after Lady Gaga delivered a powerful performance of "Til It Happens to You."
Gaga took the stage alongside tens of survivors of sexual abuse to sing the Oscar-nominated song, which she co-wrote for The Hunting Ground, a documentary exploring campus sexual assault. The poignant performance received a standing ovation, and brought audience members to tears.
Gaga was introduced by American vice president Joe Biden, who urged the audience and everyone watching at home to take a pledge to speak up for victims of sexual assault. "Too many women and men on and off of college campuses are still victims of abuse," he said. "Take the pledge: I will intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given. We must, and we can, change the culture."
